Chapter 1

Yangzom is a kind-hearted person and she is a great believer of a religion. Most of the time she visits religious places. Once when she was circumambulating the temple, she saw Anim sitting at the backside of the temple, facing towards the big mountain and clam river following down towards the south-west. Most of the time the same Anim was found sitting at the same place in a meditative position. Yangzom couldn't resist without asking any questions to Anim after seeing her sitting in the same place whenever Yangzom visits the same temple. So Yangzom went near her and asked "can I talk to you and know about you?"

"Life is something that we cannot define at all. Sometimes I believe, life is just like a dream. Sometimes I feel, it's a journey which we were made to complete whether we like it or not. Life is such a complicated journey where everting is connected to one another. If one knot gets disturbed, the whole journey gets messed up. We cannot say anything about it. It is undefinable" said Anim facing at the great mountain at the other side and the clam river which flows below the mountain.

Looking at the expression of Anim, Yangzom got curious and she asked, "how can I help you?" "I don't think anyone can help me unless I can help myself. Many people came through the journey of my life but no one could help me, no one could save me, everyone was helpless. So I don't think you can also help me in any way" she responded with her tears rolling from her cheeks. Yangzom got devastated looking at Anim. She regretted asking unnecessary questions. However, she managed to console Anim and said "you are right. I may not be able to help you but we cannot see the inner strength, power, and commitment of another person. We can never judge anyone just looking at their appearance. Maybe I will be of some help to you. So can you share your problem?". "If I have to share my problems, you must have enough time and patience to listen to me," said Anim. "I won't mind listing to your problem. I can manage to be with you just to listen to your problem if you don't mind to share with me. Before you share anything about yourself, you must trust me that I will not share your stories with anyone and it will be with me only" said Yangzom to make Anim feel more comfortable sharing her problems and stories. 

"My name is Tashi Dolkar. I changed my name after joining Dratsang in the year 2001. I was born in the year 1980 to a wealthy family. I am the youngest among five siblings in my family. I am from the eastern part of Bhutan. I started my education at a community school located just next to my home town. From there I completed my primary education and later I went to another new school for my secondary and higher secondary education. After completing class 12, I qualified in CST(College of Science and Technology) to study civil engineering. Until I reach college, I didn't face any problem. My parents and elders were all supportive and they encouraged and motivated me in whatever I do till that day. After joining the college, I had devasted problems that I still cannot forget until now. I don't think that I can forget that tragedy happened to me in my life" Anim shared. After listening to her short introduction, Yangzom got more curious and asked, "what happen after joining college?" "It's getting dark now. I need to attend my evening prayer. I will share from tomorrow" she responded and went to do her evening prayer.

Today is Your BirthDay

 Dear Tshering Tshueltrim Choden,

12th September will be always a special and important day in our entire life. It is the day where you came to existence with so much luck and wishes in my life. It is the day where most unbearable pain was felt in my mind and heart with so much excitement and joy in one's lifetime. It is also the day to celebrate every year with lots of good wishes and prayers for the accomplishment of whatever journey we venture into. On this day exactly at 12:01 pm, you were born at Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Referral Hospital. You were welcomed with so much love and excitement in my life. This moment was the most life-changing moment in my life.

It’s really amazing to know that you will be 2years old today! 720days of our journey together with you was really extraordinary and no words can describe how I felt witnessing your developmental stages. I enjoyed every little thing which you picked up from others. As you grow up every day, you learn every little thing which happens in your surrounding. Every day you imitate how others speak and do, and you get more mature every day.  The entire 720 days of our journey together was really amazing and you have never failed to engage and surprise your father and me. Thank you so much for being that amazing little girl. Hope you will be more amazing in the future.

Time may change, people may change, our surroundings may change, our life may change but your mother's love will never change in any situation. No other thing can replace the love of your mother. No other thing will be pure than the love of your mother. Whatever I do, wherever I go, you will be my first priority and at any cost cannot leave you behind and move forward. You will be my world and this world will be more amazing and beautiful in your presence.

Today on this very special day of ours, I would like to say a few things which you must know in our life:

1. Life will be never easy. It will be more challenging with the change of everything in the world of digitization. So you must be strong enough to face those challenges in your life. 

2. Being a girl, our enemy is always with us. So you have to be extra careful and cautious about whatever you do in your life.

3. In your life, try to be the best. Always do good and be good to others. You must have a clean and pure heart and mentality.

 This is the journal recorded by the narrator of “Big Story of A Man” in her daily diary.

Extraordinary Sensations

I cannot describe what I am really feeling tonight. I got distracted, I got surprised, my heart got broken, no more I can imagine this complex world. Literally, I got an extraordinary feeling which I never experienced before. How can I accept the fact that my close friends are getting into a relationship?. Karma is a married man and he is a father of three sons. He got a beautiful wife back at home, he got a beautiful family life and he doesn’t have any problem to get into another new relationship. Regarding Pelzom, she is such a very beautiful girl. She posses a perfect body figure, her academic performance is always outstanding. Her parents are all educated and her family and siblings are always supportive. She doesn’t face any financial crises and she doesn’t have any problem in her life. She still has a bright future. She cannot get married to a man who already got a family.

This world has become so complicated It has become more complex with modern technologies. Anything can be done within a short span of time. Anything can be fake, anything can be superficial, anyone can become a duplicate, any person can act unique and may more. 

With the change of everything in our surroundings, both men and women must be cautious. We never know who will be deceiving and who will be the victim in the relationship. Both must be critical in their thoughts, must be careful in their action, and must be cautious with what they speak to the other somebody. Anyone can be the victim in the relationship if not careful. 

Love is blind faith. It doesn’t have any bars to restrict the feelings to move from one person to another. It can happen at any time, anywhere, and with anyone. But true love will happen only once in everyone's life. Before our true love comes into our life, there will be many characters who will play a different role at a different scene. There will be lots of drama in our life. Sometimes it can be miserable, sometimes it can be joyous, and sometimes be frustrating.  While you play any kind of drama in any scene, both men and women must be critical, must be cautious, and must be clear in thoughts. If not, there are probabilities that anyone can be a victim in the relationship.

When people are restored with desire and urge, their mouth will become sliver spoon and their expression will be so much pleasing. But their thoughts will be never honest. Their words will be never truthful. Their actions will be artificial. Most of the time people believe in those unrealistic acts and become the prey of that fake person.

The message I am going to cover here is, be mindful while you be in a relationship. All the people who you meet may not be that real person. He or she might be decorated with artificial expression, thoughts, and actions. The man who you think as most handsome and adorable might turn to the ugliest person. The man who thinks you can trust most might change to the greatest cheater in your life. The man who you think as the cleanest person might be the dirtiest person that you ever met. The man who you think single might be a father of two or three children. Never drag away your mind with looks. Pretty ladies may not be your wonderful wife. Sometimes ugliest lady might be the most wonderful partner in your life. So everyone must be mindful of what you do and how you do in your life.

Narrator's Diary

 A page "Narrator's Diary" was created in my Facebook account mainly to write stories through my own personal experiences and personal journey of life. 

Through writing and sharing stories, I hope that other readers may get inspired and motivated through it. 

Another intension for creating this page is to keep myself engaged in writing so that I can express my feelings through writing in the form of story.

Big Story of A Man

The story which I am going to share is based on true story. However the name of the character and the places were changed to maintain the privacy of the people who were involved in this story. If some name and places which are mentioned here resembles anyone, its purely coincidence and in no ways it represents the name of the people and places mention in this story.

It was a blessed rainy day, 21st September. The day was so good and exciting for Dechen to celebrate the day with her friends at college. Early in the morning, she woke up, took bath to cleanse the sin which she had accumulated over the years, offered the fresh water to God and did her everyday prayers. 

After that, she went through her Facebook to write blessed rainy day wishes to her loved ones. While she was writing the wishes on her Facebook wall, her messenger beeped with a message " hello, good morning". It's Karma, her primary school mate. She replied instantly "hello, good morning la". They exchanged few conversation by asking how are you doing, where have you been and what have you been doing. While they were chatting, Karma asked her "are you free engaged in any work today?". Dechen responded " I am not really engaged in any other important work but today is blessed rainy day so I have planned to celebrate the day with my friends at college". "If you are not engaged in other work, I thought of asking you to meet with me today" karma said. Dechen directly responded, "if you want to meet, then let us meet by evening. I will along with my friends and we will have our dinner in the restaurant". Karma said "It's ok. I will pick up from your college gate. So come till gate at 4:00pm".

Dechen went to the kitchen to prepare paneer thukpa and suja for her friends. While she was in the kitchen, her friends Zangmo called her at the top of her voice " oi, call shak la". She rushed to the room to receive the call. It was her elder sister calling from Paro to inform her that she is coming to meet her by evening. She told Dechen that she will reach her college by 4:30pm.

Dechen and her friends had their thukpa and suja. They took photos to keep their memories of blessed rainy day celebration. Ather they finished with their morning activities, they discussed to packed lunch and go out of college to celebrate the day. They agreed to each other and decide to go out for their lunch. Dechen told her friends to start preparing their lunch so that they can go early and come back early. 

They finished preparing their lunch by 12:30pm and started their journey by 1:00pm. When they reached their destination, the time was about to 2:00pm. After reaching their, they took rest for 30 minutes and then they started to have lunch. While they have lunch, Dechen said "my elder sister is coming here to meet with me from Paro. She will here by 4:30pm". She didn't share that she agreed to Karma to go for a dinner at 4:00pm. So silently she dropped the message saying " I am very sorry to inform you that I won't be able to meet with you today. My sister is coming from Paro and she will be here by 4:30pm. So I need to be in campus while she comes here. Otherwise my sister will be mad with me. So let us plan to meet in some other days". 

They went back to the college and while they reached college, the time was already 4:20pm. Her elder sister reached exactly at 4:45pm. Her sister came with one cartoon and bag. She handed over and said, "I in hurry. I will go directly from her. Take care and study well. I will call you later. If you are in need of money, I will transfer it in your account". Her sister went directly from the parking after handing over that cartoon and bag.

Her friend Choden called her "oi call shak la na" She said "Ebu giwa la ya" Choden said " new number la" New number? She hurriedly went to the room and picked up the phone and said "hello la" The other person was very serious and said "I am Karma. I was waiting near your college gate and you all are not coming. Are you going to come or not?". "Ya sorry karam. Actually I dropped you a message in your messenger. You didn't get my message?" Dechen asked nervously.

Compassion

 As per the definition of dictionary, 'compassion' is defined as "a strong feeling of sympathy for people who are suffering and a desire to help them". Once we are born on this beautiful earth, we are bound to have problems and struggles but those problems and struggles can be solved in one way or the other. Being a human being, we all have the capacity to think and analyze the suitations critically. We human have the power to change the reality into better or worst. When we have all these powers and strength, we can do little to help others to come out of the suffering with our pure heart and intention, which is called as compassion. 

Animals cannot talk just like human being does but animals too can have the same feelings which human have. Since they too have the same kind of feelings though they cannot express verbally like human, let us not harm our animals. Let us not mistreat them. Let us love them and care them. They are our parents once. So we cannot be cureal to our parents. Even if we cannot be good enough to provide them with good food or good shelter, at least let us not destroy their beautiful homes, let us not kill them to serve our stomach. 

Animals too have their rights like we human. So let us respect our animals with love and care.

Men and Women

 Back then in 18th and 19th century, there was a believe that men are always better than women. Women were treated as weaker sex. So women were never given opportunity of step out of the home to explore their creativity and potential. Women were made to be in the kitchen cooking and serving their husband and children, they were made to clean and maintain their house. Most of the agriculture works were carried by women while men they go to offices and industries to earn for the family. On top of that women were never given chance to raise their voice nor their rights.

After 20th century, time changed and women started to come out of the place where they have been working to claim their rights. Starting from their, women started to raise their voices and rights. 

Now time has changed completely and there is no difference between men and women. Both men and women holds the same rights and same place. So therefore no men should think that cooking is the role of a women, washing dishes and clothes is a role of women and cleaning house is a role of a women. Men should equally contribute and support women for successful society and meaningful life in the family.

Letter To Daughter 2

 Dear Zamin,

Today on this very suspicious day, 10th day of 7th month of Bhutanese calendar, the day of Guru Rinpoche, I would like to write how you father and myself got your name "Tshering Tshueltrim Choden". Actually I could have written this as soon as we got your name, but I couldn't write it as I was more engaged in beautiful and amazing journey of bringing you up till this age. Today as I get littel freedom to express, I thought of writing it down so that one fine day you will love to read this piece written by your mom with full heart and love.

You were born on a very special and a fine day at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital on 12th September 2019, exactly at 1:5pm. That day was the biggest day of your mom and dad. And especially to your mother, it was a history of her life. You came as a blessing, as a gift from the god and with your arrival, you brought lots of good lucks and good wishes on this beautiful earth. 

Regarding your name, we didn't name you immidetely or withing few days after you were born. We waited for few weeks to get your name with blessing and good wishes in your life from lamas and Rinpoches. In order to get your name, we requested your name from three great Rinpoches. 

Dilgo Khentsey Yangsi Rinpoche gave your name as Tshering Choden, the name of late Khando ' Tshering Choden'. It represents that your life will be long with religious mind.

Next one is, we requested Gyelsey Trulku and Rinpoche gave your name as Tshueltrim Zangmo. This means that your are a girl with good heart and behaviour.

And finally we had requested Dodrupchen Rinpoche, and Rinpoche gave your name as Dechen Choden. It means that you will be messed with good life with religious mind.

In your ketse, you were named as pema Choden. Which indicate that your are lotus which is very pure and your mind with religious activities. So after jumbling all these four names, finally your father and myself have decided to keep your names as " Tshering Tshueltrim Choden" with so much of wishes and love that one fine day this name will be famous with her own identity and definition. So hope you will like the choices your dad and mom made for your.

Letter to A Daughter

Dear Zamin,

Today you are exactly 23months and 14days old. At this age you have already started to do so many amazing things. You have already started to take care of your toilet, you have started to speak many new words, you have picked up to engage yourself more on play, you can immitate the actions from the Television, you can recognize some animals and their sounds, you can tell the numbers from 1 to 10, you can say abcd, and the list goes on and on. Moreover you have become more beautiful day after day with your maturity. 

It is such a blessing to have you in my life. Your arrival proved me the purpose of my existence in this world. Thank so much for being such an amazing daughter and I wish and pray to have great and successful life.

How to Teach Reading To Children

Reading is a journey through which we can explore and learn may new things just by flipping the pages. It's always recommendable to teach and encourage children to read at the very early age. To inculcate reading habit or to teach children to read and recognize words is not an easy task. The person who takes up to teach reading to small children, one must have high resistance to flow according to the flow of the children. If the resistance leaves is low, reading cannot happen and the child will never learn to read. And on top of that, there is high chances to develop negative feelings toward reading books. So, adult must play a critical role while they teach their younger ones to learn reading.

Another critical thing is, the person who teach reading to children must be well aware of letter-sound relationship. Otherwise there is high chances that child may learn to pronounce the words differently. 

In order to teach my daughter to get familiarized with letters and it's sounds, I made a card with letters and the pictures with it's names.

Critical Measures for the Development of a Child

Development means changes in our child’s physical, mental, social, emotional, behaviour, and communication growth. All of these areas of development are linked, and each depends on and influences the others. Therefore everyday is a golden day for little kids as they explore and learn new things everyday. Parents must nurture the child with positive response and right attitude.

In the first five years of life, experiences and relationships stimulate children’s development, creating millions of connections in their brains. In fact children’s brains develop connections faster in the first five years than at any other time in their lives. This is the time when the foundations for learning, health and behavior throughout life are laid down. So the kind of environment where the child grows up must be positive, where child can learn positive things which will be the foundation of rest of their life.

Children’s relationships affect all areas and stages of their development. In fact, relationships are the foundation of child development. Through relationships, our child learns vital information about their world. For example, our child learns whether the world is safe and secure, whether they’re loved, who loves them, what happens when they cry or laugh, and much more. Our child also learns by seeing relationships among other people – for example, by seeing how you behave with other family members. This learning is the foundation for the development of your child’s communication, behaviour, social and other skills.

In the early years, play is children’s main way of learning and developing. Play is fun for our child. It also gives our child opportunities to explore, observe, experiment and solve problems. Our child will need our support and encouragement to do this. But it’s important to aim for a balance between supporting our child and letting our child try things on their own and sometimes make mistakes. Finding out for themselves about how the world works is a big part of your child’s learning. Lots of time spent playing, talking, listening and interacting with ourselve helps our child to learn key life skills. These skills include communicating, thinking, solving problems, moving and being with other people and children.

Gift of Lockdown

Arrival of COVID-19 has completely changed the way of life we have been living. It is certain  that adjusting to change can be challenging, planned or unplanned, gradual or sudden. Change is inevitable and we must accept it as part of being human. Our county went into lockdown recently and people are facing difficult time adjusting to it. But in case of me, lockdown came as a gift. 

I felt lockdown like a gift, as I got ample time to be with my family and my growing daughter. My daughter is in need of parents love, care and attention at her critical age of mental and physical development. I got good time to know her likes, dislikes and developmental pattern. With this I knew what kind of support and guidance I should provide her to let her learn better at this age.

With this lockdown I also got time to reflect on the kind of life which I have been living. I realized that nothing is worthy and permanent in this life. Everything is meant to live only for certain period of time and no one has the power to live everyday forever. When time comes, no one has the authority, no one has to power and will to change how well and how long we live.

I got enough time to do prayers to show gratitude to our King, county and people who have been protecting and supporting our country and people to live life so peacefully. 

I got enough time to connect with my old friends and family members. Usually I used to be engaged with my professional work and get very less time to connect with friends and family. But during this lockdown, I need not have worry about my work much and I can spend quality time with friends and family through social media.

Another good thing about lockdown is, I got good time to explore through online lessons where I can upgrade and update my personal and professional learning.

Reading and exploring through books is another opportunity I could grab during this lockdown. In other days I don't get much time to read other books as I get busy preparing for the lessons to be delivered the next day. Currently I need not have to prepare any lesson, so I take opportunity to explore and learn more through reading books. 

It is also a time to sleep peacefully without any worry to wake up early in morning to cook and get ready for the work. At this time, I can also explore different excerice to do at home to keep myself fit both mentally and physically. 

This is what Covid lockdown means to me. It's just my personal experience. In no ways it represents the view of anyone.

Missing Mom

Dear Mother,

Today I am missing you more than I always used to miss you. At this moment, I am having a terrible feelings of not being able to be at your side when you need the most. It's really heart breaking to know that you are having tough time battling to win the terrible war which you are going through now a days. I wish if I have the power to fly and reach at your side. I wish if I have supper power to fight the battle which you are fighting right now. I wish if I were the one to go through the pain which you are going through right now and not you. But none of my wishes will be possible. Only thing which I can do is pray to kencho sum for your recovery within a very short period of time. Till now you have proved to the world that you are strong and you have the power to challenge whatever it comes in your way. So this time too, please be strong to overcome that challenge.

I know no one will be more understanding than the mother in this world. Thank you mother for understanding our suitation and forgiving your children for not being able to reach to your side at this critical time of yours.
